Erlinda Viray Yap, 74, of Colonia, NJ passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 26th, 2025, after a 3-year battle with breast cancer.
Erlinda was born on June 4th, 1951 to Manuel and Trinidad Viray in San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines. After graduating from the University of the Assumption, Erlinda moved to the United States.
In 1975, Erlinda married Macario C. Yap, Jr. and settled in Hoboken, NJ. They were blessed with their only child, Russell V. Yap on April of 1978.
Erlinda was a devout Catholic with a sincerely true devotion to Mother Mary and Saint Francis. She was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis. She was family oriented and made many sacrifices to ensure a better life for her parents and siblings by paving the way for their prosperity here in America. (But) Her generosity and love did not end with family because she was amother to many who affectionately called her “Mama Yap”. Erlinda had an infectious smile and wonderful optimistic outlook on life. We will miss her greatly.
Erlinda was predeceased by her father and her mother. She is survived by her husband Macario, her only son, Russell, her daughter in law, Abigail L.Yap, her in-laws, Lourdes Y. Lagman, Jesse C. Yap, Remedios Y. Strickland and her brothers and sisters, Antonio D. Viray, Danilo D. Viray, Maria Teresa V.Mutuc and Elizabeth V. Santos.
