Dorothy Venezia

Dorothy Diane Venezia (nee Hospodar) beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully at home on June 22. She was 91 years old. Dorothy was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, on August 18, 1928 to the late Dorothy and Andrew Hospodar. She married her devoted, late husband G. Nicholas Venezia in 1949 and resided in Bayonne until moving to Woodbridge in 1951, then to Colonia in 1960.

“Dotsie & Nick,” as they were affectionately known, were married for 62 years when Nick passed away in 2011. Both were faithful members of St. James Parish, Woodbridge. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved to spend hours each day with the New York Times, often spending several days completing the Sunday edition. She was a member of the JFK Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and delivered meals for the Woodbridge Township Meal-On-Wheels Program. She and Nick were members of Colonia Country Club for many decades, and enjoyed travelling with both family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her four children: Donna (Toryak) of Scotch Plains, Jeffrey of Piscataway, Deborah and her husband Barry Adler of Colonia, and Daria and her husband James Todd of Colonia. She was blessed with five grandchildren: Andrew, Nicholas, Alexandra, Sam and William; and with four great-grandchildren: Lucia, Clae, Llewyn and Ava. Dorothy was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Molly Venezia.

Gosselin Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements and burial services were private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
