Dorothy Jean Morrison

Dorothy J. Morrison passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on May 23, 1937 to the late Bishop Herman Rouse and Aleaze Harper Rouse. She resided in Newark and East Orange before moving to Edison, New Jersey in 1971. Dorothy was an administrative assistant at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark for four years and then decided to become a stay-at-home mom and focused her energy on raising her two sons.

Dorothy was a member at Bethel Church of Christ in Newark, New Jersey and a dedicated member of the Usher Board until health issues made it impossible to continue her duties.

Dorothy and her late husband were avid world travelers, visiting the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Africa along with many areas of the United States.

Dorothy exhibited true love and devotion to her family, spending numerous years as the primary caregiver to her mother, Aleaze Rouse.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Alfred Morrison Sr., her brothers Benjamin, Augustus, Leonard, and Donald Rouse, her granddaughter Ashley Morrison. Surviving are her sons Al Morrison Jr. (Patti), Steven D. Morrison (Vanessa), her three grandchildren Michele Fagan, Courtney Morrison, and Steven W. Morrison; two great grandchildren Madison Fagan and Maurice Fagan; one brother, David Rouse Sr. and one sister, Audrey Campbell. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters in law, Virginia Rouse and Claudia Rouse, and one brother in law, Lloyd Campbell, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A private visitation will take place Monday, March 1 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison New Jersey, with services immediately following. Internment at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery, Kenilworth New Jersey.
