Dorothy J. Haydu passed away peacefully in her home on April 21, 2026. She was 92 years old.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Justine Balucha. Dorothy graduated from Sacred Heart School and Coughlin High School. She moved to New Jersey after her marriage in 1956 to the late Thomas Haydu. They were married 67 years.
Dorothy was a longtime resident of Colonia and was a member of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church for over 50 years. She proudly served as a past officer of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Colonia Post 248.
Dorothy was employed by Abraham & Straus Department Store in Woodbridge, NJ. She retired after 24 years of service.
Dorothy enjoyed listening to music and dancing the jitterbug. She loved to shop at Macy’s. She was a great cook and her family looked forward to holiday gatherings at her home. Dorothy was fondly known as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Dorothy is survived by her children Claire Haydu, Doreen White, Thomas Haydu and Dolores, Mary Israel and husband Jeff; her grandchildren Joaquin Maturino, Julian Maturino and Leah, Natalya Clausen, Alex White and wife Christina, Joyce Haydu and Victor Rivera, Ashley Haydu, and Daniel Israel; and her great grandchildren Sydalee, Sawyer, Luna, Luke, Lexi, and Cruz.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers Stephen Balucha and Frank Balucha, her sister Marie Tomascik, and her son-in-law Cruz Maturino.
