Deonilda Sanchez Obituary

Deonilda Sanchez, lovingly known to all as Nilda, was born Deonilda Torres Flores in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her devoted family, at the age of 77.

Nilda was preceded in death by the love of her life and beloved husband, Romualdo “Willie” Sanchez; her parents, Patria Torres and Paulino Torres; her brothers, Domingo Torres and Antonio Torres; and her sister, Madeline Torres Cordero. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving siblings and their spouses: Paulina Milagros Laquerra, Rosa Livingston (Roger), Julio Cesar Torres (Deborah), and Lillian Melendez (Orlando).

Nilda was a devoted and loving mother to her children: Vicky Salazar (Daniel), Jemima Lucia (Doug), Alberto Sanchez (Carmen), Lewis Sanchez (Marilyn), and Bruce Michael Sanchez. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was a proud grandmother to Jacqlin Perez, John D’Angelo, Jonothan Salazar, Michael
Salazar, Anisa Lucia, Gabriel Sanchez, Maximus Sanchez, Ariana Sanchez, Lewis Sanchez Jr., Xavier Sanchez, Alexander Sanchez, and Shanna Sanchez, and a deeply loving great-grandmother to Violet Perez, Emery Perez, and Mila Salazar. She is also survived by her many beloved nieces and nephews, each of whom she loved dearly and treated with the same care and affection she gave her own children, as well as extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.

Nilda worked for many years with the United States Postal Service, where she met her soulmate, Romualdo (Willie). Together, they built a beautiful life in Colonia, New Jersey, where they attended St. John Vianney Church and shared a love of traveling and creating treasured memories. Upon retirement, they moved to Florida, where they attended Lakeside Church in Minneola. During her retirement, Nilda devoted her time to volunteering at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, where her compassionate heart and desire to help others truly flourished. Nilda was known for her kind and gentle spirit. She found happiness in caring for her family, especially through cooking their favorite meals when requested. She enjoyed reading, crafting, dancing, and spending time with those she loved most. She had a smile that could light up any room and a playful, mischievous sense of humor that stayed with her until the very end — often dancing and laughing with her home health aides, bringing joy to everyone around her.

Although Alzheimer’s and dementia slowly took her from this earthly life, Deonilda’s love, warmth, and beautiful spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.  For donations: alz.org
