David W Wertz

David W. Wertz passed away suddenly but peacefully on January 4, 2022. David was born on August 16, 1953 in Springfield, NJ and spent his childhood in Metuchen, NJ. He moved to Edison with his wife Debbie to raise his family and then moved back to Metuchen, where he currently resided. 

David or “Super Dave” as his former Amtrak employees would call him, served as an Electrician for 30 years on the railroad before  retiring. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren Ethan and Charlotte. David had a love for watching old movies and music, going to concerts, riding his bike long distances and dining out.He also enjoyed going on vacations with his family. He had particularly fond memories of Ocean City, MD and Florida, where he went for many years with his entire family. 

David is predeceased by his wife Debbie (2018), his brother Kurt (1982), his mother Anna (2018) and his brother in law John Van Horn (2019). He is survived by his beloved daughter, Nicole Kitchell and her husband Andrew, of Colonia, father Alfred Wertz of Bayville, NJ, sister Shawn Van Horn and her daughter, Kiah Van Horn of Bayville, NJ, brother Karl Wertz and sister in law Kristin Eckard of Metuchen, NJ and sister Shara Wertz of Norfolk, VA. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Ethan and Charlotte Kitchell of Colonia. 

Most of all, David had the greatest love for his entire family. He will deeply be missed by all who knew him, as he was the nicest man, with a smile always on his face. 

A celebration of life will take place at a future date.
