Cristina Tiongson Dy

Cristina “Baby” Dy passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 12, 2024 after battling cancer for more than six years. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Ceferino, family members and friends. 

Cristina was a beloved wife and dedicated nurse.  She was born in Manila, Philippines on November 6, 1948, graduated from  Arellano High School and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Santo Thomas, Class of 1969.

Cristina chose to study nursing with the idea of working in the United States. Her dream was realized when she was sponsored by Goldwater Memorial Hospital in Roosevelt Island, N.Y. in 1971.  

She was a devoted practitioner of the Catholic faith and attended and served in a number of dioceses in New Jersey and Florida. She donated a lot of time and effort through personal and church initiatives toward helping the less fortunate and was an avid gardener as evidenced by the roses and orchids that decorate the inside and outside of her home. Cristina and Cefy also enjoyed traveling to see new sites and gain new experiences and memories. 

Cristina is survived by her husband, Cefy, to whom she was married to for more than 50 years, her sister, Luvy Molina, two brothers Eddie and Louie Tiongson, and a number of nieces, nephews and relatives. Cristina and Cefy had one daughter, Sharon, who preceded her in death in 1991. 

The family will host a visitation ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Gosselin Funeral Home (660 New Dover Road, Edison, N.J. 08820) from 4-8 p.m. 

The funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024 at St. Helena Church (950 Grove Ave. Edison, N.J. 08820) at 10 a.m. The address is:. Following the funeral mass will be the entombment at St. Gertrude Cemetery & Mausoleum (53 Inman Ave. Colonia N.J. 07067) at 11:15 a.m.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Cristina’s name.
