With profound love and heavy hearts, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Charles Petruzzi, who passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94. A man of great strength, devotion, and unwavering spirit, Charles was the true embodiment of resilience, love, and family.
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Charles grew up with a deep love for his Italian heritage, strong values, and unparalleled strength that defined much of his life. A great athlete, he excelled in baseball and was a Golden Gloves boxer, displaying both the grit and grace of a natural athlete. Even in his later years, he remained remarkably active, walking more than two miles every day up until just months before his passing.
Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, carrying with him the discipline, dedication, and camaraderie that shaped his character. After returning home, he built a beautiful life, first in Iselin, NJ, and later enjoying his well-earned retirement in Lakewood and Forked River, NJ.
Above all else, Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—his greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his loving children: Charles and his wife Cherisse, Debbie and her husband Anthony, and Mark and his wife Michelle. His legacy of love and strength continues through his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored him deeply.
Charles' presence was larger than life—whether it was his warm embrace, quick wit, or the wisdom he shared through stories of a life well-lived. His love was fierce, his laughter contagious, and his impact immeasurable. While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him and that we know he is again with the love of his life, our Mom, Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a long walk, share a meal with loved ones, and raise a glass in his honor—just as he would have wanted.
