Carol Ann Szamreta, beloved wife, mother, Nana, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully in Rahway, New Jersey on April 7, 2024. Born in Newark, New Jersey on September 15, 1947, to the late Edgar and Anna Sprague (McEvoy), Carol's life was a testament to love, dedication, and compassion.
Carol's devotion to her family was unparalleled. She was the loving wife of Ronald Szamreta for 54 years, a partnership filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. Together, they raised three children, James, Jason and Jeannine. Her dedication extended to her daugther-in-law, Dayanne DeSouza-Szamreta and son-in-law Daniel Weiss, whom she welcomed into her heart as her own.
As a mother, Carol's love knew no bounds. She balanced the responsibilities of raising her children with grace and tenderness, ensuring they were nurtured in both body and spirit. Her warmth and care extended to her grandson, Benjamin DeSouza-Szamreta, whom she adored as his precious Nana.
After devoting herself to raising her children, Carol returned to full-time work at Chase Manhattan in Edison, New Jersey. Her work ethic and dedication were evident in all aspects of her life, whether at home or in her professional endeavors.
Carol's family was her greatest joy and she shared a special bond with her siblings. She was a loving older sister to her late siblings Robert, Kenneth, Joseph, Edward, Sharon and Kathleen, as well as to her surviving siblings, Gerard, Lorraine, and Teresa Sprague. Her family expanded beyond bloodlines, as she embraced her role as aunt, cousin, and friend with open arms, touching the lives of many with her endless love and kindness.
Throughout her 38 years as a resident of Carteret, New Jersey, Carol's presence brought light and joy to all who knew her. Her move to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, marked a new chapter in her life, where she continued to radiate warmth and compassion to those around her.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, Carol's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her presence. Carol's memory will forever be cherished and her absence deeply felt. May she rest in peace, knowing she was loved beyond measure.
