Carmela Theresa Barletta (nee Faragi) beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed peacefully into eternal rest on July 15, 2021. She was 96 years old. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony Michael Barletta and is survived by her son, Thomas Philip Barletta and wife, Anne Marie (Kenyon) Barletta, and her daughters, Dr. Mary Patricia (Barletta) Alexander and husband, Dr. Michael B. Alexander; Karen Ann (Barletta) Antone and husband, Virgil Antone; and her daughter, Elizabeth Theresa (Barletta) Edwards. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Matthew G. Alexander, Thomas P. Barletta, Jr., Dr. Kathryn E. Barletta, Christopher M. Antone, Patricia M. Alexander and William D. Antone, and nine great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her beloved sister, Rosalie F. (Faragi) Curto, and Rose’s husband Ted Curto.
Carmela was a devout Catholic. A funeral mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Wilus Way, Iselin, New Jersey 08830, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Interment will be at a later date at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
Carmela was born on September 23, 1924 in Newark NJ, to Domenica and Philip Faragi. Carmela grew up in Newark, and Irvington. She graduated from West Side High School, Class of 1942, in Newark and from Seton Hall University with a degree in English and later received a Masters in Early Childhood Education from New Jersey State Teachers College (Kean University). After college, she taught at Bender Memorial Academy in Elizabeth, NJ.
Carmela married Anthony Barletta of Elizabeth, on April 23, 1948. They lived in Elizabeth until 1954 when they moved to Edison NJ, where they raised their four children. There, Carmela and Anthony founded Rolling Hill Nursery School, Kindergarten and Summer Day Camp, which they owned and operated for 30 years. She loved working with children, continued to do volunteer work with children into her late 80’s, and touched many lives over her lifetime.
After retirement, Carmela and Anthony moved to Cape Coral, Florida, and later to Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. After Anthony’s death on December 31,1999, she settled in Barnegat NJ. She lived in Barnegat until June 2018, when she could no longer live alone due to progressive dementia, and then moved to Parker at Monroe, where she lived and was cared for until her death.
