A piece of our hearts is now in heaven.
Bernard was born on November 14, 1925 and raised in New Brunswick. He spent many Sundays reading the comics and sharing chocolates and ice cream with his mom.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, patience with others, joy and kindness. He was always ready to lend a helping hand even when he knew the task might be too much for him. Bernard was always good humored, funny and liked to joke around. He enjoyed reading historical fiction, mystery and crime novels as well as the daily crossword puzzles and word searches in the newspaper. He also loved sci-fi movies and shows and action and adventure movies including Indiana Jones and James Bond.
Bernard is predeceased by his parents Timothy and Catherine(Yonger) McManus; brothers Timothy Jr. and Robert and sisters Grace, Claire and Catherine.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, RoseMary; daughters Catherine Birk of Daytona Beach, FL, LoriAnn and her husband Amilton Santos of Iselin and Bernice of Fords; his sisters-in-law Irene Pearce, Margaret and her husband Donald Calvert and his brother-in-law Paul Kitlan and his wife Rose. Bernard is also survived by his three loving grandchildren, of whom he was very proud, Gabriel, Daniel and Isabella; many nieces and nephews as well as many others who adopted him as their own “Dad” or “Grandpa.” And he is greatly missed by his “sofa buddy” and “granddog” Rocky and his “grandkitty” Pepper.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him but he has left us all some great memories and this piece of advice:
“Drive carefully, have a good day, have fun and stay out of trouble.”
Visitation Saturday March 13, 2021 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm with a 3:00pm Blessing at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road Edison, NJ.
