Alma M. Scoda passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at the age of 92.
Alma is predeceased by her husband Raymond, her son Brian, brothers Edward Lewis and Sylvester Slatky, and sister Jeanne Bruno. She is survived by her sons Raymond and his wife Gail of Piscataway, NJ, Michael and his wife Dawn of Marlboro, NJ, Mark of Edison, NJ, her daughter-in-law Linda of Edison, NJ, 10 grandchildren, brothers John Lewis and Robert Slatky, sisters Mary Ann Greco and Viola Leonardis, and many nieces and nephews.
Alma was born and raised in Duryea, Pennsylvania before moving to Edison, NJ where she and Raymond built their home and raised their family.
After working in many capacities at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield for 39 years, Alma retired as Director of Nursing Education at the age of 83.
Her children and grandchildren were a great source of love and pride for Alma, just as she was a great source of inspiration to them. In addition to working full time and raising her 4 sons after her husband passed away, she continued her education through the years, receiving her Master’s Degree when she was in her 60s.
Faith was also an important part of Alma’s life. She and her husband were founding members of St. Helena’s Roman Catholic Church in Edison, NJ where she continued to worship devoutly until she was no longer able.
Private services will be held at the Gosselin Funeral Home, 600 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
