Angelica Gutierrez departed for Heaven on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25, 2021 at the age of 82 with her loving family by her side. She was born on May 21, 1939 in the northern provinces of the Philippines and was one of nine children. In 1961, Angelica married Emilio Gutierrez with whom she had six children – Emmanuel (Noel) of Edison, NJ; Juancho (Joey) of Edison, NJ; Anthony (Tony); Susan; Joselito (Jojo); and Emilio Junior (Jonjon). While in the Philippines, Angelica was a hardworking and resourceful woman. Although she never completed any formal schooling, she was a savvy businesswoman who ran her own store, selling whatever she could while also working as a seamstress just to make ends meet for her family.
In the late 1990s, Angelica and her husband, Emilio, immigrated to the United States to join her son, Joey and grandson, Bruce and later found a loving community in the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rahway, NJ where she developed many precious friendships. As a woman of faith, Angelica regularly attended church and taught her family how to appreciate all of God’s blessings. She enjoyed long walks in the park and showed her grandchildren how to appreciate nature. She also loved to cook delicious traditional Filipino meals, especially desserts like leche flan. Even though she was thousands of miles away, Angelica spoke to her many grandchildren—Jessica, Micaela Vega, Art Vega, Leian, Joseph, Joycilet, Christine, Charliemagne, Angel Aika, Jhon Emil, Emilio III, Gracielli, Emilio Elijah—and children in the Philippines on a near daily basis thanks to today’s technology. She will also be missed by her many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4PM to 8PM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, NJ 08820. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
