I’m deeply saddened to hear of my friend's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Walter at Harwyn Florsheim at Menlo Park Mall back in the 90’s. He was a very classy and refined gentleman. He told me stories of his youth in Guyana, his tiger “Joe,” his days as a boxer and as part of the crew on a freighter. He was my boss in the shoe store. Very knowledgeable. A GREAT salesman! We went running together in the park. I was in my 20’s. He, in his 50’s......he left me in the dust. LOL! He was a big believer in physical fitness. We talked politics and current events. I introduced him to wine coolers and we watched VHS action movies on the VCR at work. I lost my own father several years earlier, so I kind of looked to Walter as a sort of surrogate father in a way. I've tried to contact him and his family without success over the years.
My heart is very heavy at the moment. God Bless you Walter. You were my friend. Our lives took different paths and we lost touch. I hope to see you again when my time comes as well, so we can share a few wine coolers and catch up on all that’s happened.
To Walter’s family: You have my deepest condolences and deepest sympathy. I am so sorry for your loss. Know this.....Walter touched the lives of many people, through the stories he told me as well as those we interacted with on the job. He touched my life as well.....and I will NEVER forget him...
God Bless,
Tom

"Mr Andy" (as we grew up knowing him) was like a second father me. He was always there for me. I miss him so much. I still can't believe he's gone. He will forever be in my heart. Just the other day a patient called my job, sounded just like him. Once I hung up the phone, I had to gather myself, because I was in tears. He will truly be missed. Here it is 5 months later and I still think about him.... Truly a wonderful person.#alwaysinmyheart😢

Please accept my sincere condolences in the passing of Walter Quarless. I never met him but I did meet Brian over 25 years ago at Metrofit Health Club in Pelham and we joked that we may be related. As it turns out, we are. In short, I corresponded with, I believe, Phillip on Ancestry.com a few months ago and he mentioned that his grandfather was very ill. Yesterday while doing family research I saw the obituary online. From the photo I can see that Brian favors his father a great deal. I know this is a difficult time but I do hope to meet your family one day. Sincerely, Warren Quarles (Quarless)
