Walter C. Bucher, Sr., of Iselin died Saturday, July 1st at home. He was 92.
Born in Newark, he was a lifelong resident of Iselin. He attended Woodbridge High School and Newark Technical School.
He was a Licensed Master Plumber for Kelch Plumbing in South River before his retirement.
Walter was a WWII veteran, proudly serving in the US Army. He was a holder of the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct and NJ Distinguished medals and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action at Cassino, Italy on December 25th 1943 as a member of the Co. A (Company A) 15th Infantry Regular – 3rd Division.
He was a licensed private single-engine pilot that enjoyed flying, fishing, crabbing, hunting, working in his garden and spending time with his family.
He was a life member of the Iselin VFW, Post #2636; the DAV, Woodbridge; Military Order of the Purple Heart Association Chapter 181 and the US Army 3rd Division Association. He was also regular member of the American Legion, T. Nulty Post #471, Iselin, the Old York Gun Club, NJ York Rod & Gun Club of Colonia (Past President), Senior Member of the Old York Gun Club of Hightstown, Former Weblo Leader, Pack #48, Former Assistant Scout Leader, Troop #48.
His wife, Anna died in 2014.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Diane & George Fink of Avenel and Lisa & Tom O’Malley of Mt. Airy, MD; sons and daughter-in-law, Walter Jr. of Iselin and Brian & Renee of Iselin; sister, Eugenia “Jean” Walzer of Port St. Lucie, FL; 8 grandchildren, Kim (Rich), Shana (Rob), Tommy, Brittany, Brian, Ian, Kyle and Connor; and 2 great-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Logan.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6th at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial to follow in St. Spiridon Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Hopelawn.
