Regina "Jean" Barry Obituary

Anne Regina ( Jean)  Barry, age 94, died February 5, 2019.  She died surrounded by her children in the St. Joseph nursing home, a caring and loving community in Woodbridge.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to John and Mary (Baylie) McGonigal,  the eighth of nine children. She was a graduate of St Hubert’s Girls  Catholic  High School, Philadelphia.
She married Joseph P. Barry on June 1,1946, and they enjoyed sixty-three years of loving marriage.
Left to honor her are their five children, Eileen ( Brian) Smith, Nancy (Matthew) Skok, Joseph (Hilarie)  Barry, Mary Kate (Patrick )Flannery, Kevin (Elizabeth O’Brien) Barry, nineteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her son-in- law James Skelton.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her daughter Peggy Skelton, son Paul and son-in-law Brian Smith, her parents and eight siblings.

She was an active member of St Cecelia Catholic parish, a long-standing member of the church choir and served as a Eucharistic minister. She passed on to her children her love of reading and was a self-taught and talented seamstress. She loved her Irish heritage but was always proud of being a “true American Yankee”.
Those of us who know her and love her will always remember her joyful sense of humor, her quiet dignity and her fierce determination in the face of any and all difficulties, and her never failing trust in God.
The family is deeply appreciative to all those at St. Joseph’s who have taken such good and loving care of our mother.  Thank you for your compassion and gentleness.
