Grace Lynnell Melbourn Small, aged 83, died peacefully on April 19, 2018 at JFK Hospital, with her family by her side. She had fought and overcame many health issues through the years but always managed to enjoy life.
Lynn was born December 28, 1934 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Charles Herbert Melbourn and Esther C. Selin. Lynnell graduated from Perth Amboy High School and graduated from Monmouth Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she met lifelong friends and proudly served as a nurse for many years.
On March 9,1957, Lynn married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Alexander J.Small. They moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina were he was stationed. The lived in Hazlet for 35 years and then they built their dream home in Punta Gorda, Florida. Six years ago, Lynn moved back to New Jersey and lived with her daughter, son in law and two grandchildren. She was happy to be near her family, she enjoyed eating out, traveling, the beach, laughing, going to the mall and playing mahjong.
She is survived by three children: Laurie Murphy and her husband Kevin of Pawcatuck, CT, Susan McHale and her husband Thomas of Iselin, NJ and James Small of Highlands, NJ. She was also survived by her grandchildren Megan McHale and Andrew McHale whom she treasured. Lynnell is also survived by her brother, Charles Herbert Melbourn and his wife Linda. As well as her nephew David and niece Kristina and many close friends.
She was a kind and loving, mother, grandmother and friend and will be forever missed.
Viewing will be held at Gosselin’s Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison on Sunday April 22, 2018 from 5pm-8pm. Service will be held at New Dover Methodist Church, 690 New Dover Road, Edison, 9:30am on Monday April 23, 2018.
