My most heartfelt condolences to the family and to Kaye's partner, whom I never met. Forty years ago Kaye made a huge difference in my life: he taught me life and caused me to grow up. He also too a young man with very narrow perspectives and opinions and changed my life completely. I was more a little brother to him than anything else. When I married, my wife and I tried once again to find Kaye, but the Internet did not give him up. There were countless Kaye Martin Johnsons, but they were waitresses in Omaha and trailer court denizens in Dubuque, not Porsche-driving Anglophile bon vivants doing the Bump at the Wu Wu, but metamorphosed into serious academics. It was because of Kaye that I made my first trip to Ruegen Island to see Isherwood's haunts when I was a liaison officer to the Soviets, and it was because of Kaye that I went to Weimar.  Thank-you Kaye, for having had such an influence on a young man. My most sincere condolences to your partner.

My Friend KMJ led an interesting and challenging life.  He was a force of nature.  He strode both academia and government service like a collosus.  The elements (to paraphrase Shakespeare) were so mixed in him that those who knew him would behold this man as unique.  May God Grant him peace.

Additionally, to his partner Robert my deepest sympathy.
