Joaquim DeMatos

Joaquim DeMatos passed away peacefully Tuesday June 11, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Portugal moving to the United States in 1973 settling in Elizabeth before moving to Colonia 1 year ago.

He worked as a lab assistant for The University of Coimbra Hospital in Portugal for many years moving to the US working at several industries retiring 25 years ago. He loved reading, walking and having long conversations. He was devoted to his family and they always came first.

He was predeceased by his parents Frederico and Ana DeMatos, his sister Laura Pereira. Surviving are his wife of 64 years Maria DeMatos his children Rodrigo Marques and his wife Ana, Fred DeMatos and his wife Mabel and Ana Oliveira and her husband Joao, his grandchildren Michelle, Melissa, Steven, Kristen, Brian and Kevin, his 2 great grandchildren Isabella and Gabriella. He was also survived by his sister Clara Cunha.  

Visitation Thursday June 13, 2019 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road Edison, Funeral Services Friday June 14, 2019 at 9:30am at the funeral home followed by a 10:45am Mass at St John Vianney RC Church Colonia, Interment St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia
