Ellen Oswald, was born Feb 17th 1933, in Chicago, Illinois during the end of the Great Depression. The daughter of Austrian immigrants, she learned very quickly the values and opportunities this country provided. Her family, which included her older brother, John would move back to New York City when she was six, a place her family originally lived before their move to Chicago. In New York, they lived on 91st street in Yorktown, maintaining their Austrian culture from music to food.  After graduating from high school Ellen found work in a bank in mid-town Manhattan doing the financial books.  In 1952 Ellen met her husband, John and married in 1953. They eventually moved to New Jersey in 1962 and raised one daughter (Lori) and two sons (John and Jim).

When Jim the youngest started school, Ellen decided to attend classes at Middlesex Community College where she received her teacher's aid certificate. Working several years for St. Helena's school and later at Oak Tree Public school in Edison. In 1976  she became a Librarian in North Edison Public Library and remained there until 1993. Unfortunately, her husband had passed away in 1990 at the age of 62 and in 1994 she moved to Riddle Village Retirement Community in Media Pennsylvania. There she enjoyed working at the local thrift shop, traveling, spending time with her friends, and participating in the many activities and events offered at Riddle Village. Ellen leaves behind  her daughter Lori Gnacek and her husband Kevin, son John and his wife Maureen, son Jim and his wife Donna, 8 grandchildren Stacey, Kelly, Dana, Christopher, Courtney, Kimberly, Daniel and Alex and 5 great grandchildren Lincoln, Linae, Leena, Easton and Olan.
