Clara A. Holt passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Scotch Plains on Thursday, August 25th surrounded by her loving family. She was 87.
Born in Perth Amboy, she lived in Edison since 1952. She graduated Perth Amboy High School and was an active lifelong member of the high school reunion committee.
Clara worked as an executive secretary at National Lead, Revlon and the Regina Corporation for many years after raising her children. She retired from ACARCO in South Plainfield in the early 1970s.
She was a talented pianist and artist in her own right. She also enjoyed weekly Scrabble parties, which she generally dominated, with her good friends. She was also active with the Metuchen Senior Citizens, the Catholic One Parenting Organization and was a dedicated volunteer at JFK Hospital for over 10 years. She will be remembered for her positive outlook, friendly nature and willingness to help others.
Clara is predeceased by her husband, Harry; and her parents, Clara & George Dillman.
She is survived by her children, whom she dearly loved, Lorraine O’Grady of Westfield, Rick Holt and his wife Marydette of Scotch Plains, and Ken Holt of Edison; three grandchildren she adored, Claire, Kevin and Sean O’Grady; and sister-in-law, Kim Holoboski. She will be dearly missed by her family and many dedicated and caring friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:30 AM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Helena’s RC Church, Edison. Burial to follow in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia. Please obey all traffic laws if driving in this procession. Visitation will be held on Monday 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations in her loving memory can be made to the Community Food Bank of NJ, 31 Evans Terminal Road, Hillside, New Jersey 07205 or at www.njfoodbank.org.
