It is with great sadness that the family of Burton Abrogeña Guirnela announces his passing on January 24, 2018 at the age of 60 years, after battling cancer. Burt was born and raised in Santa Ana, Tagoloan, Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines and moved to the US after marrying his wife Meredith Soledad Guirnela in 1985. He pursued a successful career as an electrician at Amtrak for 27 years, and with his family, made many friends as residents of Fords, NJ. Burt was an avid music lover and talented cook, known for opening his home to both friends and strangers alike. His generous heart and hospitable nature was recognizable to all who met him.
Burt is predeceased by his parents Arsenio Guirnela and Afra Guirnela as well as his brother Richard Guirnela. Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Meredith, his 3 children, Samantha, Kevin, and Megan, his 5 siblings along with countless family members and friends who will continue to miss Burt everyday.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 28th, from 6-9pm at Gosselin Funeral Home, 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Funeral services will be held at Faith Fellowship Ministries on Monday, January 29th at 11am. Burial to follow at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
