Fords, NJ - Debra Gene Kozub (Debbie to those who knew her best), 73, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
A Life Filled with Love, Faith, and Fun
Debbie's life was a testament to her love for family, faith, and finding joy in everyday moments. Born to Anna and Eugene Swisher on March 14, 1951, she grew up in Kearny before moving to Iselin with her family. In 1973, she married the love of her life, Peter Kozub, and together they built a beautiful life in Fords, NJ, for over 50 years.
Debbie's devotion to her family was undeniable. She cherished her role as wife to Peter, mother to son David and daughter-in-law Amanda (whom she considered a true daughter), and Nana to Laura Gene and Nathan. Debbie was their biggest cheerleader, always encouraging Laura Gene with a loving "Fly High" and showering Nathan with hugs after school. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her.
Beyond family, Debbie was a pillar of faith, actively involved with the Catholic Daughters of America for 20 years. She dedicated over two decades to teaching the Parish Religious Education program at Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords and Saint James Church in Woodbridge.
Debbie's passions extended far beyond the ordinary. She was an amazing cook and baker, bringing people together with her delicious creations. A skilled crafter, she found joy in sewing and quilting. An adventurous spirit, Debbie loved exploring the world through travel. And for a touch of whimsy, she could often be found catching Pokemon with her family, proving that age is just a number.
Forever Cherished
Debra leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She will be deeply missed by her husband Peter, son David, daughter-in-law Amanda, granddaughter Laura Gene, grandson Nathan, brother Louis Swisher, and many loving nieces and nephews.
