Phyllis A. Zollner, of Toms River died Monday, June 26th at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. She was 80.
Born in Newark, she lived in Kenilworth and Avenel before moving to Toms River.
As a single mother, stepmother and caregiver, she raised her children and found the love and support to provide for them and those that she cared for while also working several jobs including secretarial work for Chevron then Horizon Securities before retiring in the early 1990s.
Her husband, Leonard E. Zollner, Sr. died in 2009. She was also predeceased by her son, Theodore Sekulic in 1990; and her sister, Angela DiOrio in 2007.
Phyllis was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a heart full of unconditional love that will be remembered always.
Surviving are her son, Michael Sekulic of New Jersey; stepson, Leonard E. Zollner, Jr. of Bayville, NJ; stepdaughter, Angela Zollner of Rancocas, NJ; sister, Josephine Strittmatter of Cranford, NJ; brother, Emil Scuorzo of South Carolina; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 29th from 9 to 10:30 AM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, followed by an 11 AM Mass at St. Andrew’s RC Church, Avenel. Burial to follow in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia
