Mary Antoinetta (Furchi) Speranza

Mary Antoinetta Speranza, of Edison died Thursday, March 19th at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 76.

Born in Catanzaro, Italy, she lived in Newark before moving to Edison in 1976.

Before becoming a mother, she worked as a Seamstress in Newark for many years. She was also a devout parishioner of St. Helena’s RC Church in Edison.

Toinetta, as she was affectionately known as to her family and close friends, enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and boardwalk during the summer months, as well as in her garden with her beloved plants, flowers and trees.

Her husband, Antonio died in 2008. She is also predeceased by her son, Mark Mercurio Speranza in 1998.

Surviving are her son, Michael of Edison; daughter and son-in-law, Donna & Erik Hastrup of Colonia; brother, Antonio Furchi of Edison; sister, Elizabeth Cimino of Edison; grandchildren, Kellie and Mark; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25th at 8:30 AM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison, followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Helena’s RC Church, Edison. Entombment to follow in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24th from 5 - 9 PM at the funeral home.
