Manuel M. Assuncao, of Colonia died Sunday, March 1st at his winter home in Sarasota, Florida. He was 86.
Born in Portugal, he has lived in Colonia since the early 1960s.
He was a co-founder and operator of Assuncao Brothers, Inc. in Colonia for over 30 years before retiring in the early 1990s.
Manuel was a parishioner of St. John Vianney RC Church in Colonia. He was also a member of the Beneficencia Algarvia with the LusoAmericano Club in Elizabeth.
Surviving are his wife Maria of 61 years who celebrated their anniversary last week; son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Elaine Assuncao of Colts Neck; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Assuncao and her husband Michael Sanchez of Devon, Pennsylvania, and Jaqueline Assuncao and her husband Tim Milway of Flemington; brothers, Diamantino “Martin” Assuncao of Warren and Helder Assuncao of Edison; and 5 grandchildren; Robert, Christina and Emily Assuncao; Ryan and Evan Milway.
