Joseph E.  Martino, Sr.  78, passed away Wednesday April 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

   He was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Sewaren before moving to Colonia 52 years ago. He started his educational career as a teacher in Linden Public Schools, then taught in the Woodbridge Township School District for 10 years where he was the first Head Football Coach for Colonia High School. After 1 year as an Athletic Director and Football Coach for Rahway Public Schools he returned to Linden as Athletic Director, Head Football Coach and Principal where he later retired as their Superintendent of Schools in 2009.

   Joseph was a member and past President of the Woodbridge Board of Education for many years, past President of the Middlesex County Coaches Association, the Knights of Columbus, and many educational and athletic associations. He was inducted into the NJ Coaches Hall of Fame and the Woodbridge Township Athletic Hall of Fame. He was the founder of the NJ North South Annual Football Game

    Joseph was predeceased by his wife Theodora Martino . Surviving are his children Lisa Hudak , Judith Martino, Joseph Martino, Jr., his grandchildren Marissa and Elizabeth.

 Visitation will be Friday April 21, 2017 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM at the Gosselin Funeral Home 660 New Dover Road Edison. Funeral Service Saturday April 22, 2017 at 9:00AM at the funeral home followed by a 10:00AM Mass at St.  John Vianney Church, Colonia. Interment St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
