Dr, Kathleen (Kay) Lynch-Cutchin, of Colonia passed away on August 26, 2013 at home at the age of 61.

She was born in Limerick City, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States to the Greenwich Village section of New York City and eventually moved uptown to Washington Heights, where she attended George Washington High School.

She graduated in 1978 with a B.A. in English from Hunter College, CUNY. She then studied in Europe at the Institut Catholique de Paris and at Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland, before accepting a teaching appointment at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she completed her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in English. 

She moved to New Jersey in the late 1980s and served as Dean and Professor for Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in New Brunswick for over 25 years. Kay held several positions at Rutgers, including associate director of the Writing Program, for which she developed training and testing methods still in use, and director of the Program in American Language Studies (PALS). 

In 1998, with two colleagues, Dr. Gail Price Rottweiler and Dr. Ajanta Dutt, Dr. Lynch-Cutchin was the author of Landscapes and Language: English for American Academic Discourse (St. Martins Press).

Kay is survived by her husband of 30 years, Russell Cutchin who passed away on July 29th 2017, their daughter Christina June Cutchin, and three sisters, Florence Lynch Bonny, Mary Lynch Fallon, and Patricia Lynch Larsen, along with many nephews and nieces. 

She was predeceased by her father John Lynch, her mother Christine Lynch née

Leslie, her brother Navy SEAL John Lynch and her sister Sarah Mary Harriet Lynch. 

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the ASPCA or the American Cancer Society.

Private cremation services were held under the direction of the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, Edison.
