Alfred H. Byington, Jr.

Alfred H. Byington Jr., of Iselin died Monday, November 21st at home.  He was 84.

Born in Flushing, New York, he has lived in Iselin since 1955.

Al worked as a Design Engineer for Otis Elevators in New York and New Jersey for over 40 years before retiring in the late 1980s.

He was a parishioner of St. Andrew’s RC Church in Avenel and a 3rd Degree member of the Iselin Knights of Columbus.  Al loved to tinker around the house and enjoyed various home improvement projects.  He also loved the outdoors, playing tennis, golfing and watching baseball, but particularly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s softball and baseball games and recitals. 

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Jean (nee: Stillie); sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin & Mary Byington of Iselin and Alfred & Karen Byington of Millburn; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara & Edward Fehring of Avenel; brother, Charles Byington of Arizona; sisters, Anita Cilli of Sag Harbor, NY and Ruth Byington of Flushing, NY; 7 grandchildren, Ashley, Andrea, Kerry, Kelly, Alex, Will and Ryan; and many nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25th from 5-9 PM at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison.  Funeral service will follow on Saturday, November 26th at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 10 AM Mass at St. Andrew’s RC Church, Avenel.  Cremation will be held privately.
